Summary

The Senior Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing operational aspects of remote and in-house production events, including management of full-time Supervisors, Technicians, studios, controls rooms (linear and cloud). This position drives revenue by maximizing use of internal facilities and delivering a high level of client service. Providing leadership is crucial to create and maintain a positive and inclusive work culture that promotes engagement, retention and development. The Senior Operations Manager is required to balance the human and technical demands for several expanding high quality broadcast clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute strategic workforce planning; Manage the day-to-day recruitment, evaluation, training, development, compensation, assignment and supervision of a talented group of broadcast technicians.
  • Oversees Dome internal facilities including (but not limited to), studios, control rooms (linear and cloud) and command center. Responsible for operational functionality and maintenance to maximize business opportunities. Recommends new and improved workflows and technologies to increase productivity. 
  • Collaborates with Scheduling, Production Managers, Operations and Engineering, to ensure the daily production, technical and operational requirements are in place to meet clients’ short and long-term production requirements. 
  • A comprehensive understanding of client’s properties and technical requirements, interacting daily with engineering, operations, logistics and event production department.
  • Acts as a central resource for engineering and production, collaborating with teams to develop and execute technical plans that align with Dome’ s business and technical objectives, often managing concurrent schedules.
  • Responds promptly to facility issues and requests reported by staff and/or clients.
  • Works closely with engineering maintenance and Merton engineering to ensure facilities are operational for all events and identify any issues that could affect production.
  • Coordinates and executes when necessary, testing, general maintenance and repair of the critical site systems and equipment. 
  • Guide and influence the team to ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, while proactively addressing and resolving challenges and unexpected issues.
  • With the assistance of the Director of Operations, develop strategic plans and policies, including recruitment, training, and compensation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set performance expectations; assessing performance of crew operators, communicate feedback, provide coaching and determine training required to build skillset and continuous improvement. 
  • Work closely with Technical Managers and Production Managers to help solve any crew issues.
  • Effectively communicate pertinent information to ensure all projects are meeting scheduled requirements, issues are identified and are managed in a timely fashion.
  • Work closely the Company’s travel department to communicate required guidelines. Approve all travel related expenses for staff technicians ensuring compliance with corporate policies. 
  • Liaise with company payroll to manage administrative processes regarding timesheets and payment.
  • Assists in all budgeting activities, resource allocation, and expense forecasting.
  • Assemble labour forecasts, development needs, and participate in all hiring activity.
  • Drive change management practices to enable organizational effectiveness.
  • Make sound business decisions based on the overall good of Dome Productions.

Critical Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in studio & field broadcast operations, at least 5 years in a management and leadership role. 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate, motivate, manage, and inspire employees to perform their best as a team; empathy and emotional intelligence to understand and support team members.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, organization, and mobilizing resources to meet operational needs in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. 
  • Conflict resolution skills to effectively manage and resolve workplace disputes.
  • Adaptability and resilience to thrive in a constantly evolving environment where innovation, continuous improvement, and speed of execution are competitive advantages.
  • Customer Service orientation (internal/external)
  • Proven track record of independent decision-making ability 
  • Capacity to think strategically 
  • High level of initiative, responsiveness and follow-through
  • Organized and detail-oriented 
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Micrsoft Office Suite software.
  • Bilingualism would be an asset
  • Must be flexible in working hours. Some travel required.
