Position: News Acquisitions Editor, CTV London
Location: CTV London (ON)
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week. Evenings. Overtime as required

Responsibilities

  • Dub and edit raw material and finished news stories to produce compelling visuals for television viewers. Edit complex headlines and stingers to be included in newscast.
  • Edit, package, and publish video content for CTV2 News Digital to serve all news platforms.
  • Creating graphics for news packages, special series and monitor loops, as well as ability to operate Chyron.
  • Produce and edit promos for future broadcasts.
  • Send and record news feeds and programming as required. 
  • Curate photos and build high-impact image galleries.
  • Line-up Editor and support for News Specials as required.
  • Maintain recognized broadcast technical and editorial standards. 
  • Participate in planning and execution of paid programming functions.
  • Operate prompter, time programs and program segments, and perform other control room and other duties as assigned. 
  • Backfill other roles within the bargaining unit as required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a post-secondary degree in journalism, broadcasting or equivalent. 
  • 2-3 years’ experience in digital and television media platforms. 
  • Demonstrated ability to file, retrieve and utilize archival material, both digital and non-digitized for News and Specials.
  • Proficiency with computer software/internet and practical experience working with technical systems relevant to news/web operation including Content Management Systems, Adobe Photoshop, iNews, Chyron and various web browsers
  • Demonstrate artistic aptitude – exceptional sense of design. 
  • Editorial knowledge of current affairs and newsmakers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written (grammar and spelling).
  • The successful applicant must demonstrate a high degree of adaptability and must be committed to learning in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize material, meet deadlines and work accurately.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. 
  • Practical working knowledge of Microsoft Office and iOS devices.
