The Manager, Capital & Planning is a critical role responsible for the strategic management and oversight of capital allocation and expenditure within the Consumer and Small Business portfolio. This individual will be a key driver in ensuring that capital resources are efficiently and effectively deployed to maximize return on investment (ROI) and align with overall business objectives. The role requires a deep understanding of capital governance, budgeting principles, financial analysis techniques, and strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- Capital Budgeting & Planning: Partnering with business stakeholders to develop and manage the annual capital budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and financial constraints.
- Financial Modeling & Analysis: Develop financial models and automated tools to enable decision making amidst various constraints, including ROI calculations, sensitivity analyses, and scenario planning.
- Budget Monitoring & Control: Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets, identifying and addressing potential variances proactively. Implement corrective actions to maintain budget adherence.
- Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate with and influence stakeholders across various departments, including product management, engineering, and finance, to ensure alignment and collaboration on capital-related decisions.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve capital budgeting and allocation processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Policy & Procedure Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of capital governance policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and transparency.
- Help to lead and maintain capital governance processes
Critical Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of demonstrable experience in capital budgeting, financial planning, and analysis within a complex organizational structure. Experience in a product development or technology-focused environment is highly advantageous.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with advanced functions such as macros, pivot tables, and data analysis tools. Experience with financial modeling software is highly desirable.
- Proven expertise in developing and presenting compelling financial presentations to senior executives.
- Demonstrated experience with project management software (e.g., Jira, Asana) and financial reporting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Comprehensive understanding of capital budgeting principles, techniques, and methodologies (e.g., NPV, IRR, payback period).
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex financial issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex financial information to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to build consensus and drive decision-making.
