The purpose of this role is provide strategic guidance, technical expertise and support on absenteeism, personal and work-related disability management, workplace medical accommodations and targeted health services (executive health program and partnerships with other medical clinics):

  • Develops and drives strategic programs in its area of expertise and ensures implementation of cost-effective, sustainable and compliant solutions, considering all relevant external legislations and internal guidelines.
  • Ensures alignment with Human Resources strategic direction related to employee experience, labour relations and other HR efforts to elevate employee value proposition
  • Oversees two teams of disability claims managers – one dedicated to worker’s compensation claims for work-related injuries and occupational illnesses and a second one dedicated to personal absences
  • Actively manages long term disability claims across Bell business units
  • Assumes responsibility for vendor management and oversees Bell’s Short term disability absences being managed by Bell’s preferred insurance carrier (absence management program under ASO contract)
  • Establishes KPIs to track and monitor company-wide and BU specific performance results related to sick leave absences and medical accommodation requests.
  • Manages and analyzes escalations, litigations, grievances and employee complaints related to disability and accommodations in order to drive continuous process improvements
  • Provides support to Bell’s internal Legal counsel as well as third party Legal counsels in high-risk cases, union arbitrages, and litigations.
  • Engages third party experts and vendors as required for independent medical expertise, rehabilitation services, substance abuse treatments, etc.
  • Supports leaders and HR consultants in complex health related situations including inappropriate behaviours or declining performance with suspicion of underlying medical conditions, problematic substance use, excessive occasional absenteeism, workplace barriers preventing return to work, etc.
  • Participates in joint health and safety committee reviews related to disability management processes and sick leave benefits administration
  • Acts as subject matter expert to develop and deploy content and presentation material in order to inform, educate and raise awareness with key stakeholders (employees, union, leaders, HR, Health and Safety, Legal and executives) on relevant health matters
  • Partners with Bell’s workplace health team to develop health promotion campaigns, enhance workplace mental health programs and provide input on Bell’s workplace mental health scorecard results.
  • Partners with Bell’s Health and Safety team to analyze Worker’s Compensation financial performance as well as preventive health and safety programs (industrial hygiene studies, ergonomic assessments, etc.)
  • Supports mergers and acquisitions and the integration of new companies being brought under Bell  / BCE ownership (Worker’s Compensation accounts amalgamation, STD – LTD transition, etc.)
     
  • Minimum requirements
  • Master’s Degree, Medical doctorate degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (Bachelors.+10 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+5 yrs)
  • Relevant experience in large size corporate environment with unionized workforce
  • Bilingual French and English (written and oral)
  • Ability to work with Microsoft suite (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
