Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager of French-Language News, the incumbent acts as a key pillar of daily editorial operations. This person plays a central role in content coordination, the live broadcasting of events, and ensuring smooth collaboration among journalistic teams. Through rigor, editorial judgment, and the ability to mobilize teams, they contribute directly to the quality, consistency, and efficiency of news production.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure the editorial production of “special programming” segments for live broadcasts on Crave, including lineup creation, content management, interview coordination, and broadcast supervision.
• Produce and coordinate live content segments on Crave that do not require on-air teams, including press conferences, media scrums, and other live news events.
• Participate in editorial vetting of reports in collaboration with assignment producers to ensure journalistic rigor, accuracy, and consistency of content.
• Contribute to daily news coverage planning and prioritization, supporting desk leads and assignment teams by suggesting ideas, angles, and contributors.
• Ensure continuity of editorial team operations by adjusting work schedules based on short- and medium-term staffing changes.
• Maintain close coordination between production, research, and writing teams to ensure workflow efficiency and deadlines are met.
• Respond quickly to unexpected situations or major news developments by adjusting editorial priorities and resources.
• Support the production of special projects and major coverage initiatives by planning content, staffing, and logistics needs.
• Act as an assignment producer when needed to maintain operational flow and coordination of field teams.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of editorial practices and workflows.
• Support recruitment and onboarding of journalistic staff by assisting management in identifying and hiring talent.
• Act as a resource person for editorial teams, providing operational guidance and supporting fast decision-making.
Critical Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a newsroom, news/public affairs programming, or information content across television, radio, and/or digital platforms.
- Results-driven leader with the ability to mobilize teams effectively.
- Strong relationship-building and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proven experience in ideation and production of news programming.
- Ability to work under high pressure and manage tight deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, film, journalism, law, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of journalistic ethics in Quebec.
- Bilingualism required.
Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
