The Bell Media Network team supports the design, engineering, and operations of the infrastructure, software, and technology solutions for our expansive and exciting Media business. We closely support the Media business unit in the creation, production, support, and delivery of content for all of the many Media brands including RDS, CTV, TSN, Discovery, CP24, BNN, and more.

Role:

Reporting to the Director of TV and Network Engineering, the Senior Manager of Media Technology Systems is responsible for leading a highly technical team of Systems Specialists that support many of our critical Media storage/compute/delivery platforms and technical software solutions/workflows.

 

The successful candidate will be an individual that thrives in an environment full of change and transformation of people, process, and technology. The role involves engagement and collaboration across a wide range of internal and external partners within our Montreal team, as well as with team members and stakeholders across Canada.

 

The position demands a senior, seasoned technology professional with exceptional oral and written communication, influence and coaching skills, a strong sense of ownership, and an orientation towards fostering effective teams that are continuously improving.

 

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Lead a technical team in identifying, driving, and partnering with other teams to devise innovative solutions to complex technical challenges as well as continuous improvement initiatives with systems and workflows.
  • Continuously support and develop team members through active coaching and mentoring.
  • Work in collaboration with business partners and other technical groups in Bell Media on the strategies for growth and evolution of the many systems, infrastructure, and software that drives the core of content storage, delivery, and processing within the organization.
  • Provide strategic technology direction and support the career growth and development of the team within a rapidly changing industry.  
  • Exemplify and drive our Network 3.0 values with emphasis on transformation, collaboration, experimentation and innovation.
  • Work in partnership with other Senior Managers in Media and within Bell Network to synergize, learn, and leverage on best practices.
  • Establish, maintain, and grow the relationship with our internal and external partners through close engagement and collaboration.

 

Qualifications / Competencies:

  • A demonstrated strong ability and desire to collaborate with other technical teams, business and vendor partners to solve problems and improve how the work is done.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated with a high degree of personal initiative, but must also be able to work within and drive collaboration in a team environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to align a team to the ideas of innovation, experimentation, and transformation.
  • Ability to develop the overall capabilities of the team by maximizing each team member’s abilities and the structure of work activities within the team.
  • Ability to influence and gain stakeholder alignment.
  • Experience in understanding financial budgeting and planning activities. Ability to work amongst other teams in building, aggregating, and communicating budget requirements as well as managing spending plans within the team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to describe detailed technical systems to a non-technical audience.
  • Technical background and knowledge in the areas of Virtualization, software development pipeline & related tools, systems administration, large scale storage  (DAS, SAN, NAS, LTO Tape Libraries), system automation & scripting tools, databases, media broadcasting & editing systems.
  • University degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working within a Media/Broadcast environment is very desirable.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required.

 

Bilingualism is required (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
