Name and description of hiring department

Télébec Mobility Network and Field Services is responsible for mobility service assurance and Mobility Radio equipment for all Télébec and Bell Mobility Canada (Quebec) networks. The sector’s various teams are in charge of maintenance, support, provisioning, service assurance and project coordination duties, in addition to handling major problems. Our services are mainly provided to our Bell Mobility and Bell Mobility Radio customers, and include major maintenance contracts such as Motorola, CSPQ and RENIR.

 

Position description

The Outside Plant Technician, Wireless Network is responsible for the corrective and preventive maintenance of mobility and radio network elements.

 

We are seeking a motivated candidate to collaborate with the team in order to achieve objectives, someone who has good communication and problem-solving skills, and who is able to learn new technical processes related to the position. The incumbent must be very adaptable and eager to work in a rapidly changing environment. Availability and strong planning and organizational skills are also essential.

 

Job duties and accountabilities

  • Install, activate, optimize, repair and maintain all network infrastructure equipment (radio, shipping centre, solar, paging, HSPA, CDMA, in-building)
  • Handle network performance anomalies and alarms and monitor their resolution
  • Maintain a high level of proficiency in the use of multiple computer applications and software for specific equipment
  • Maintain strong proficiency in the use of specialized laboratory equipment for wireless services
  • Interact with and provide recommendations to network engineering staff on implementation and optimization issues
  • Coordinate and verify contractor services to maintain the physical integrity of cell sites and power systems
  • Maintain the company vehicle and equipment inventory
  • Investigate internal and external customer complaints
  • Work outside of regular hours, as required
  • Perform basic scheduled and/or unexpected (emergency) work in remote areas

 

Critical skills and competencies

  • Extensive computer skills and training (including Microsoft Office applications)
  • Solid networking and IP competencies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Availability for temporary assignments (overnight stays)
  • Valid driver’s licence and the ability to drive a vehicle responsibly
  • A clear Bell Corporate Security / police background check

 

Preferred qualifications

  • A diploma in telecommunications or electronics engineering technology and, preferably, a course in RF propagation
  • Experience in RF, telephony and microwave telecommunications
  • Experience in service assurance, network provisioning and maintenance, and two-way radio equipment
  • Experience with shared resource networks and the Motorola shipping centre
  • Programming skills (an asset)
  • Snowmobile and towing experience (an asset)

 

Working conditions

The incumbent must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, be available to work a flexible schedule according to business needs, participate in a future standby program, if required, and work overtime, as needed.

 

The successful candidate must have the physical abilities required to perform tasks safely and to meet all specific safety requirements associated with the equipment to be used as part of the work assigned.

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
