Summary
As a Strategic Planning Analyst, you will be responsible for overseeing various financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. The Finance Manager will work closely with other departments to provide financial support and guidance.
The successful candidate will possess strong experience with forecasting, month-end reporting, preparing management P&L’s and have financial analytic experience along with excellent communication, critical thinking skills as well as the ability to identify key business trends and issues. The candidate will also have the capacity to build relationships at various levels of the organization and the confidence to participate in senior level discussions.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Develop and maintain annual budgets and forecasts, analyze financial performance against budget, and identify areas for improvement. Prepare variance analysis reports and present findings to senior management.
- Financial Systems: Lead integration of financial systems and working on new data science models including Alteryx. Oversee the daily operation of financial systems and software, ensuring data integrity and operational efficiency.
- Month End Accruals: Forecast monthly spend for all the internal opex and external vendor cost to ensure all the data points are captured and forecasted keeping in view all the known factors. Engaging with scheduling, ops & Project teams to flag any potential pressure and working on mitigation plan with operations to ensure spend within Budget.
- Maintain and Improve Uniform Customer Ops Hierarchy across Financial Systems and Reports: Maintaining a uniform Customer Operations hierarchy across financial systems and reports for accurate data analysis, consistent reporting, and efficient operational management. Identifying and addressing any inconsistencies by standardizing, data mapping, data governance and regular audits.
- Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with accounting standards. Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Internal Controls: Implement and maintain strong internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Conduct regular reviews of internal controls and identify areas for improvement.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
- Special Projects: Actively participate in ongoing special projects aimed at improving cost efficiency, including the development of business cases.
Critical Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Business/Commerce and CPA/MBA (or working towards designation)
- 2-3 years of finance work experience
- Experience building management reports as well as financial models and forecasting
- Experience with preparing ad hoc financial analysis and providing recommendations to senior management
- Comfortable working with various financial systems, has strong working knowledge of Excel/SAS/SQL, ability to data mine and manipulate large amounts of data
- Knowledge of SAP, BPC, SQLA and Alteryx is an asset
- Ability to streamline processes to improve both speed and accuracy of planning and reporting processes
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation skills).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and information effectively.
- English required-interaction with English speaking stakeholders across Canada.
