Job Duties / Accountabilities:
CTV News is looking for a digital journalist to join our parliamentary bureau to cover the federal political scene. If you thrive on breaking news, want to be on the leading edge of stories Canadians are talking about and work with a team of young, energetic writers, we want you to apply. is a top news publisher, reaching one of the biggest audiences in Canada. You will be working alongside some of Canada's top award-winning journalists who cover the biggest stories in federal politics.


  • Writing several news stories each day and updating them with the latest information from a variety of sources
  • Cover question period, committee hearings, political scrums, caucus meetings and political conventions
  • Pitching ideas, researching, conducting interviews for original reporting
  • Develop federal and provincial political sources, with the goal of breaking stories
  • Ensuring all copy published is free of typos and grammatical errors
  • Interpret a wide range of sources, including social posts, government statements, press releases and court rulings
  • Work closely with television and digital producers to extend general broadcast content on the website, and extend web-based content into the TV environment



  • Degree in Journalism 
  • 3+ years experience in a digital news environment, with some of that time spent covering federal politics
  • Must have strong editorial and news judgment, with an excellent command of the English language
  • Experience writing quick and accurate breaking news copy 
  • The ability to write engaging headlines that make readers want more
  • Familiarity with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law
  • Ability to work under constant tight deadlines, with strong time management skills
  • Experience working in broadcast news, and in a digital newsroom environment, is an asset
  • An understanding of newsroom management systems (e.g. iNews, etc.) is an asset







Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
