Location: 706 Alexandra St., Hearst, Ontario

 

Job Summary:

The Business Services Technician is required to install, maintain, test and repair a wide variety of technically complex data telecommunications systems and equipment. He/she may also be required to maintain, repair and install enterprise voice systems such as Avaya, Panasonic and Toshiba.

The successful applicant will coordinate activities with a centralized support centre to analyse and resolve mainly business customer data problems. He/She is also able to work in a fast paced changing environment, be part of a team, and work independently with minimal supervision.

 

 Essential Qualifications/Skills:

  • College diploma in electronics, Data communications, telecommunication; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The high school diploma is required for candidates outside Northern Tel Unifor Local 6 bargaining unit
  • Valid Class G driver's license
  • Excellent knowledge of the outside plant
  • As required to meet customer’s needs, agree to undergo a background security check
  • Ability to climb poles and ladders and work aloft
  • Ability to carry ladders
  • Capable of differentiating colored wires (color code) and working in confined spaces
  • English: proficient without restriction, French: working knowledge is an asset
  • Knowledge of transport network standards such as T1, DS3, SONET, ATM, Ethernet
  • A good understanding of IP concepts such as routing, switching, VPN
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong customer contact skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, grasp and apply new technology
  • PC proficiency (hardware configurations, Microsoft applications)
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting related to Enterprise Voice Systems is an asset
  • Cisco certification at the CCNA level would be an asset
  • Experience in problem solving and troubleshooting of voice systems is an asset

 

Working conditions:

  • The candidate must be able to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions and on variable schedules and different shifts according to business needs, work overtime as needed, sometimes on short notices, and travel inside and outside the NTL territory
  • The successful candidate must have physical capacity to safely execute all functions/aspects of the job and meet all safety requirements associated with the equipment that he will use throughout the course of his employment

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French)
