The Finance Team manages the performance and risk profile of Bell, ensuring the needs of customers, investors and employees are balanced with long-term business success. The Financial Controllers group is responsible for the integrity of the financial results. The team delivers accurate and timely financial information while maintaining a strong control environment and ensuring the effectiveness of business processes.  The Controller team is a strategic business partner, supporting critical decision making which optimizes results and returns.  The successful candidate will actively participate in and drive these processes.


Job Duties/Accountabilities:


This role in the Controllers’ group is responsible for submitting the financial statements used by Corporate for consolidation on a monthly basis, has accountability for all balance sheet accounts and also ensures that financial reporting is in compliance with approved accounting policy.  This person is also the lead for the quarterly reviews and annual financial audit by the external auditors.  Understanding of the overall business operations as it pertains to risks and control gaps and process improvements with respect to Service Revenue, COGS and IFRS reporting is an important requirement of this role.  


  • Review, approve, and critically analyze the balance sheet monthly
  • Review and approve monthly submission of financials and variance analysis to Corporate Consolidations team
  • Lead monthly journal entry approval process including ensuring risk is adequately addressed
  • Work closely with Finance Operations, Consolidations and External Reporting teams in analyzing and assessing the accuracy of financial results.
  • Provide guidance on application of accounting policies and controls.
  • Manage risk through oversight of provisions and Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Main contact for internal and external auditors
  • Lead investigations and analysis as required and assist in change management for new initiatives
  • Lead the preparation of annual legal entity financial statements and regulatory filings.
  • Oversee the annual process to assess the adequacy of the business unit’s provisioning for its revenue and accounts receivable balances.
  • Supervise staff of two managers


Critical Qualifications:


  • Candidate must possess a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) accounting designation as well as 5+ years of working experience (preferably at a large public accounting firm or in a controller/similar role).
  • Strong IFRS technical accounting background with specific experience in applying recent IFRS standards (ex. IFRS 15 or 16)
  • Must possess superior interpersonal skills and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work in a team, provide training and foster a positive and rewarding work environment for direct reports.
  • Must demonstrate organizational awareness and have the ability to manage strong relationships within and across cross-functional units.
  • Be highly organized and able to effectively handle multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills – ability to interpret quantitative analysis in the context of the business
  • Strong proficiency in MS applications including Excel, Access, Word


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience dealing with external auditors
  • Excellent SAP, BW, JESS & Excel skills
  • Knowledge of Bell finance procedures and systems
  • Experience in Telecom industry and knowledge of Bell products


Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
