Our Network team plans, designs, builds and operates Bell’s multi-billion dollar networks, including the continued expansion of our fibre optic network, HSPA+ and LTE —  Canada’s largest and fastest wireless network.

Position Description:

The Network & Services team is responsible for planning, designing, building and operating Bell’s wireless, wireline and customer networks, and supporting the delivery of voice, data, video and content. Specifically, the Network Big Data COE (NBD) team is responsible of providing intelligence through data for all the network teams (Media, Wireless, Wireline, IoT, Internet…).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Network Engineering, Operations and other Network Big Data COE team members to address business needs through the design, development and deployment of analytics solutions to enable business insights and drive value.
  • Develop data workflow, from ingestion to consumption (Visualization, Artificial Intelligence, Real-Time functions)
  • Explore new sources of information to uncover new business opportunities at all levels of the business
  • Build automation for repetitive yet complex tasks through the use of automation technologies to streamline operations.
  • Research and deploy new tools, frameworks and patterns to build a sustainable big data platform.
  • Deliver technical expertise to initiatives for the Big Data analytics platform, data and applications
  • Work with and present to all management levels
  • Work in an agile environment and contribute to the improvement of our development processes


Critical Competencies:

  • A Bachelors or Master’s degree in computer science, math, applied science / engineering, with experience in an associated field.
  • Expertise in object oriented software development and application design in Java, Python, Scala
  • Experience working with Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Impala, Solr, Kafka, Spark and others) - high volume, high velocity data
  • Ability to automate processes through code and orchestrate deployments (CI/CD) and manage code (GIT, SVN etc)
  • Knowledge of Linux and network concept
  • Experience creating dashboards and other visualizations that deliver real-time analytics solutions
  • Knowledge of analytical tools and languages such as R or Python
  • Strong knowledge of relational data modelling and complex SQL
  • Familiarity working with NoSQL databases and unstructured/semi-structured data
  • Proven experience using Statistics and Mathematics skills to analyze complex datasets, identify complex correlations in data and perform predictive modelling
  • Able to communicate with business users to understand, document and translate their needs into an effective BI solution
  • Familiarity with machine learning and predictive analytics tools and concepts
  • Experience working in the Telecommunications or Media industries is an asset.
