Government Affairs is a part of the Legal/Regulatory team. Government Affairs is responsible for helping craft good public policy while enhancing Bell’s reputation and public profile with governments and external stakeholders. Our two main objectives are to help the business grow through the development and implementation of favourable public policies and to help mitigate policy risk.

The Government Affairs team at Bell is a small, dynamic group of business, legal and policy professionals working on a wide variety of issues of high importance to Bell’s operations.  We promote Bell’s strategic priorities and product narrative with public policy decision makers. Government Affairs also supports day to day business transactions (such as community investments, network builds, field services, emergency management, business development and contracting) and assists with legal and regulatory obligations and actions.

 This is an individual contributor role with significant accountability, senior-level exposure and cross-functional engagement across the company.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Government Affairs, the successful candidate will:

  • Support Bell’s government affairs and public policy engagement and strategy across federal, provincial, and municipal governments.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with Members of Parliament, ministers, senior government officials, regulators, and political advisors across key departments and agencies, both federally and provincially.
  • Be responsible for integrated communications, escalations and emergency management.
  • Provide strategic advice and policy analysis to senior executives and internal teams on the Canadian political, legislative, and regulatory environment.
  • Support internal business and sales teams by providing insights on government priorities, policy direction, and procurement trends.
  • Be a big-picture thinker, who forms strategic relationships within the organization to ensure they have all the information required to represent Bell externally and to ensure Bell speaks with one voice to governments.
  • Be responsible for developing a road-map to ensure government relationships and internal processes are aligned and coordinated in order to mitigate any risk to network operations.

Critical Qualifications

 

  • 5-7 years experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory roles within the technology sector, consulting, trade associations, or government institutions within Canada.
  • Proven experience working in or with the federal government, including Parliament, ministerial offices, or central agencies, including demonstrated ability to influence complex multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Experience working with national and provincial authorities and policy-making bodies
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, policy and public affairs campaigns.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills
  • Strategic thinking and ability to navigate complex policy environments
  • A consensus builder with strong communications skills
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented and results driven
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience manipulating large datasets in Excel to support policy analysis reporting or planning activities
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with external partners
  • Ability to quickly and clearly summarize complex documents
  • Strong analytical, and big picture thinking

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
