Responsibilities:      

  • Writing and editing breaking news for the website, social media and mobile applications
  • Developing and executing content and social media strategy for major news events
  • Pitching and delivering insightful analysis and background stories
  • Work independently with other teams to develop interactive and explanatory features for news specials
  • Monitor and publish wires, with an eye to SEO, keywords and social sharing
  • Manage multiple social media streams for news (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and others) and when required, send news alerts to mobile apps
  • Work closely with CTV News producers to extend general broadcast content on the website, and extend web-based content into the TV environment.
  • Excellent news judgment, ability to recognize emerging story
  • Keep on top of trends and latest digital innovations

 

Qualifications:          

  • Degree in Journalism
  • At least three years’ online experience
  • Experience managing and supervising a team in a newsroom
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, plus advanced knowledge of CP Style Guide
  • Exceptional computer skills and familiarity with Content Management Systems and news gathering systems
  • Demonstrated ability to originate coverage on developing stories including popular trends and features
  • Demonstrated ability to think visually when crafting a story 
  • Portfolio of online journalism that includes samples of at least three items from the following: breaking news writing, political or business analysis, social breaking news, data visualization, interactive storytelling
  • Experience or proven understanding of emerging mobile news standards
  • Excellent communication skills (writing, phone, interoffice)
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and creative
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline oriented environment

 

Hours of Work

  • 40 hours per week Sunday-Thursday. Overtime as required

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
