Job Description

Position: Accessibility Media Operator, Bell Media, Unifor 723M
Location: Bell Media – 299 Queen St W, Toronto
Status: Regular – Full Time        
Salary: As per Collective Agreement                    
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Overtime as required

Responsibilities:

  • Providing Television Broadcast Accessibility: Closed Captioning and Described Video
  • Use auto-transcription tools to generate transcripts of video content
  • Create Offline Closed Captioning from automated transcription application
  • Review transcripts for accuracy and make necessary corrections
  • Offline Described Video writing
  • Live DV voice description
  • Coordinate the influx and output of CC/DV requirements in a manner that allows quick and effective captioning while accommodating the needs of the clients
  • Insert Closed Captions and Described Video into video content using industry-standard software
  • Contribute to the workflow by partnering with staff, production clients and operations services to ensure that all necessary deliverables are provided in a timely manner while keeping all systems organized and available for use
  • Coordinate track and communicate requests from our programming and promotions teams  
  • Coordinating outside captioning and described video services
  • Ensure that closed captions are compliant with all applicable regulations
  • Reformatting scripts for other applications
  • Researching to solve spelling and grammatical problems
  • Screening and proofing to minimize errors

Long Description

  • Upholding established protocols and style guidelines
  • Prioritizing duties in order to meet deadlines promptly
  • Ensure that necessary materials are delivered on time
  • Overcome unforeseen situations such as schedule changes, program non-delivery and equipment malfunctions as required
  • Participate in creating and maintaining monthly reports as needed.
  • Troubleshoot workflow issues (technical or otherwise)
  • Prioritize duties in order to meet deadlines promptly; strive to meet or exceed daily work expectations
  • Share information, keep records, and additional tasks as required
  • Provide ad hoc documents and project specifications that support procedures and protocols
  • Perform various other administrative tasks as needed

Critical Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience as a closed captioning operator
  • Strong writing/grammar skills
  • Experience using auto-transcription tools
  • he flexibility and composure to perform under constant deadline pressure
  • The highest attention to detail and advanced problem solving skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Adaptability to constant changes
  • Knowledge of Bell Media programs and program grids
  • Knowledge of the offline closed captioning process
  • Proficient English language and computer skills
  • Any experience in describe video, writing or voice work

 

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
