Position: Chase Producer – BNN Bloomberg 
Location: 299 Queen Street West, Toronto
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Overtime as required

 

 

BNN Bloomberg is growing our team! We are seeking a Chase Producer who is a motivated self-starter passionate about delivering financial news from “Bay Street” and “Main Street” to Canadians across the country on multiple platforms. The successful candidate will excel at booking Canada’s financial newsmakers and preparing comprehensive and compelling interview packages for BNN Bloomberg’s anchors as well as the visual elements required to fulsomely produce the segments on air and on digital. Adept at finding and booking guests for Canada’s only news brand devoted to business, finance and the markets on multiple platforms, the successful candidate will tackle same-day stories but also look ahead at potential future stories, as well as write up the segments for multiple platforms. Networking to develop a stable of contacts inside the investment industry is key.  If you are a highly motivated individual with strong business, news content knowledge and great story ideas this position is for you.

Responsibilities

  • Generating interesting and original story ideas of interest to investors, the financial industry and others in our growing audience of high net-worth Canadians
  • Tracking down high-profile and expert guests for on-air interviews
  • Pre-interviewing guests 
  • Preparing research packages and questions for use by on-air hosts
  • Designing and producing interview segments, including suggesting and overseeing the creation of graphics and video footage to help illustrate our coverage
  • Managing resources to ensure delivery of succinct, dynamic programming
  • Writing news stories about segments and ensuring stories are posted and shared on digital platforms
  • Generating and pitching interesting, original story ideas and angles for CTV News Channel.
  • Booking interviews with newsmakers and stakeholders
  • In breaking news situations, finding critical witnesses and experts to help with continuing coverage of the story
  • Finding the best guest for our Prime Time shows
  • Organize and plan coverage of major news events and breaking news
  • Work as part of a team
  • Ability to work in office for assigned shifts
  • Write scripts and add production (video, clips and graphics) to enhance interviews
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a journalism degree, or equivalent  
  • Strong knowledge of and a keen interest in the markets and financial news; previous experience in the financial industry is especially beneficial 
  • 2-4 years of experience in a major market multi-platform newsroom
  • Experience producing both live and taped programming 
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to generate story ideas, research subjects and write solid multi-platform copy
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle tasks and assignments  
  • Ability to work well in a team environment 
  • Excellent self-motivation, high energy and enthusiasm
  • Strong computer skills, including detailed knowledge of basic software
