Summary
We are seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst I to join our Defence Centre, a 24/7 security operations environment responsible for monitoring, detecting, and responding to cybersecurity incidents. This role operates in a shift-based model to ensure continuous protection of critical systems, data, and infrastructure against unauthorized access, cyber threats, and security breaches.
As the first line of defence, the Cybersecurity Analyst I is responsible for identifying and triaging security events, performing initial investigations, and escalating incidents as required. The role works closely with cross-functional teams to support timely and effective incident response.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor security logs, system events, and network traffic to identify suspicious activity and anomalies
- Utilize SIEM and other detection tools to support event correlation and threat identification
- Review and triage security alerts, assessing severity, impact, and risk-based prioritization
- Escalate high-risk or complex incidents to L2/L3 teams with appropriate context and supporting data
- Perform initial investigations including log analysis and validation of indicators of compromise (IOCs)
- Identify and filter out false positives in line with defined processes
- Follow established playbooks and standard operating procedures for incident handling
- Document incidents, findings, and response actions clearly and accurately
- Communicate effectively with internal technical and cross-functional teams, providing timely updates
- Prepare concise incident reports and maintain audit-ready documentation
- Contribute to continuous improvement of detection rules, workflows, and playbook
- Stay current on evolving cybersecurity threats, tools, and best practices
Critical Qualifications
- Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux)
- Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, etc.)
- Experience analyzing system logs, security events, and network traffic
- Exposure to SIEM or similar monitoring/detection tools
- Basic scripting skills (Python or PowerShell)
- Understanding of common cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities
- Knowledge of incident response fundamentals
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (English / French)
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or equivalent
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum)
Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
