Summary
Do you wake up in the morning and immediately look at your phone for the latest news headlines? CTV News is looking to hire an energetic morning lead producer with an abundance of ideas to join the trusted digital team in the national newsroom.
The morning lead producer will be a versatile journalist with excellent multi-tasking skills and unsurpassed news judgment. You must be a team player with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task under pressure.
You will work with the digital news team where you will be expected to assign and edit content for CTV News digital platforms, including CTVNews.ca, a high-profile platform reaching one of the biggest audiences in Canada.
We are looking for a qualified journalist who has proven editing skills, experience with daily deadlines, and an instinct for what works on digital platforms. This person will have the ability to multi-task seamlessly while managing writers, collaborating with colleagues, and staying on top of news as it comes.
This producer will be responsible for assigning and editing digital content and managing the homepage as well as other related lineups. The successful candidate will have daily newsroom experience, excellent communication skills and experience writing and editing for a digital audience.

Key Responsibilities
- Setting news priorities in meetings and constant communication with managing editor as well as writers, digital content editors
- Working closely with writers: Assigning articles and sidebars, vetting and copy editing them carefully
- Homepage and lineup management, using real-time analytics and audience data to inform curation and ensure stories are focused for our target audience
- An eye for visualizations, image curation, video placement, using best practices and tools at your disposal to assign, or request them as needed
- Work with other teams to develop interactive and explanatory features for news specials
- Communicating with newsroom colleagues to maximize distribution, third-party platforms, and reach
- Managing the flow of wire copy, with an eye on best practices, including SEO and engagement
- Developing and executing content strategy for major news events
- Manage content distributed to third-party platforms and, when required, send news alerts
- Work alongside your colleagues to champion, experiment with, and then launch your ideas in conversations about assignments and story structures, design and product development. There are no failures, only learning opportunities
Critical Qualifications
- Has a degree in Journalism
- Has at least 5 years’ experience at a digital news environment
- Possesses excellent writing and editing skills, plus advanced knowledge of CP Style Guide
- Is familiar with at least some of the tools we use, including Content Management Systems, Chartbeat, Adobe Analytics, ComScore, but also has ideas about others we should be considering
- Has the ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline oriented environment
