To support its growth, Bell Media Toronto is looking for a java software engineer to join the development team for the implementation of promotional and transactional websites and mobile applications owned by Bell Media (TV, Radio, RDS, TSN, CTV News, and more). The candidate will participate in the development of a web platform allowing reusability of components on many brands in a multidisciplinary team.

 

The position requires including and implementing Agile Scrum development methodologies in every research, analysis, prototyping and interfaces development (web, application software, mobile) initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develops and maintains current and planned state architectural documents such as Domain roadmaps, Standards, Patterns, reference architecture/implementation documents for Enterprise Applications related to Digital and Broadcast service
  • Bridge the strategic, business, data model, application, technical layers of Enterprise Architecture concepts with key stakeholders.
  • Develop strategies, roadmaps, standards and reference architecture/implementation for Enterprise tools.
  • Be the voice of the customer; Share insights and best practices, and connect with Engineering/development teams to remove key roadblocks
  • Sufficient hands on financial acumen to be able to build multiyear total cost analysis of solutions in order to make build or buy decisions for components of a solution 
  • Understands and transforms business requirements into scalable/manageable solution architecture and design specifications for reliability, scalability, security and integration.
  • Solves complex problems with many variables using various security, network, storage, and compute platforms.
  • Develops full-stack and reference architecture designs for infrastructure across hybrid environments inclusive of cloud platforms.
  • Participates in the development of governance processes to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately and the organization's resources are used responsibly for the infrastructure landscape.
  • Documents existing systems architecture and technology portfolio to ensure accuracy is maintained.
  • In partnership with the Technology leadership team, identifies opportunities and risks for architecting the company's applications or infrastructure solutions, including identification of competitive services, opportunities for innovation, total cost of ownership, benefits and assessment of marketplace obstacles and technical hurdles.
  • Leverages industry standards to guide solution decisions in relation to reliability, scalability, security and integration for the enterprise.
  • Designs Technical/Application Architectures, including development, testing, runtime and operations architectures.

 

Critical Competencies:

 

  • Knowledge of Applications technologies, principles and patterns.
  • In-depth knowledge for application hosting, performance tuning and application deployments. Knowledge of Linux Operating Systems, Cloud based storage, NAS and SAN.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands on technical experience with Cloud to include Public/Private or Hybrid.
  • Knowledge of Azure/AWS/Google Cloud, Solution Sizing for hardware/software platforms, Infrastructure Management Tools and monitoring tools, Cisco Networking, F5 Load Balancers, and Virtualization and container technologies.
  • Expert level of technical knowledge and understanding of architecture, application systems design and integration.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of industry's business environment and domain.
  • Possess excellent communication skills coupled with a keen analytical aptitude.
  • Self-motivated, ability to adapt to new environments quickly, capable of maintaining positive and productive working relationships in independent, and team environments.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and communication abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies e.g. SaFE, Scrum, and Kanban

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or other related field plus seven (7) years' implementation experience with demonstrated expertise architecting in several business and technical verticals with multiple technologies.
  • At least 10 year experience in solving challenging technical problems in two or more of the following areas:
  • Single page web application development;
  • Unix/Linux environment management;
  • Cloud based continuous delivery and environment management;
  • Mobile application development;
  • Micro-service design and development;
  • Large, distributed system development;
  • Software security;
  • Processing and analyzing large data sets;

 

  • Certification in one of the following technologies preferred: Cloud, mobile, web application development, cloud-native application architecture (i.e. containers, microservices, API management), modern software development techniques like DevOps and CI/CD tool chains (i.e. Jenkins, Spinnaker, Azure developer services, GitHub) and container orchestration systems (i.e. Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, Azure Kubernetes Service, GitHub).

 

Preferred Competencies:

 

  • Knowledge of major North American digital media and broadcast technologies as well as basic comprehension of related rules and regulations.
  • Is familiar with video over ip concepts and standards such as SMPTE 2110, ... 
  • Is familiar with data center networking implementation and challenges specific to media video traffic in ip networks 
  • Experience and/or training in Lean or similar process flow optimization practices considered a strong asset

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
