We lead strategic development and execution of day-to-day operations, develop tools and processes to drive service enhancements, manage customer loyalty and retention, and leverage big data and artificial intelligence to create intellectual property.


About the Role

The Senior Solutions Architect will be a key member of the Bell Business Intelligence Big Data Team. The candidate will work closely with Hadoop Developers, Data Scientists, and IT to become an ‘enabler’ for the various platforms and opensource tools used by these groups. Providing reliable, secure and scalable services in Hadoop and Openshift will be paramount. 


This position will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Manage and maintain Bell BI’s Infrastructure consisting of on-prem distributed clusters, containerized applications and open-source tools.
  • Diagnose, assess, troubleshoot and fix issues within the Hadoop ecosystem.
  • Performance tuning, troubleshooting, resource and capacity management.
  • Enforce OS/app security compliance and BI governance rules.
  • Create buildbooks and produce technological standards for various technologies and platforms. Documentation of all environmental settings and configurations.
  • Planning and upgrading of the environment, both hardware and software (where applicable). Implementing application security patches and executing upgrades.
  • Provide front line support to teams using Hadoop, micro-services and bare-metal environments.
  • Ensure availability and stability of containerized workflows\pipelines in production.  
  • Interface with various stakeholders and lead technical discussions\recommendations.
  • Along with the rest of the team, actively research and share learning\advancements in the Opensource space.


Essential Skills

The following skills would be considered assets:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Aptitude for self-learning and a drive to learn new skills.
  • Working knowledge of Containers and related concepts. Experience in working  with Docker\Kubernetes\Openshift.
  • Experience in deploying stateful apps in Openshift and using Operators for cluster deployments.
  • Experience using and troubleshooting Open Source technologies such as RHEL, Postgres, Redis, Ansible, Docker, Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Configuring monitoring solutions such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Strong RHEL Linux skills. Experience automating routine tasks and writing scripts (3+ years).
  • Experience with OS tuning and hardware concepts.
  • Knowledge of Hadoop components and familiarity with the Hadoop tool set such as Spark, Sqoop, Hive, Impala, Yarn, etc. (2+ years).
  • Knowledge of Hadoop related coding languages (Spark, Python) and SQL for Performance tuning reasons.
  • Experience working with Kerberos in a LDAP environment.
  • Comfortable with SSL\TLS security concepts and certificates.
  • Cloud infrastructure knowledge from either GCP or AWS.
  • In addition, must be a team player and fit well with the Bell Business Intelligence culture!


Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
