Position Description:

The IT Network and Security Services team leads the management of the IT security work program and is tasked with ongoing planning, design, delivery and oversight of Bell’s internal voice and data network.  

 

We are currently seeking a highly inspired and qualified specialist to fill a network security position within our team.  The ideal candidate:

  • Will act as a subject matter expert for IT security controls and solutions
  • Must have strong network skills in a variety of technologies primarily F5 APM, with knowledge of Symantec (Bluecoat) Proxy servers, LAN, WAN, Wifi, Security, SDN (Software Defined Networking) including virtualization and orchestration.
  • Must have a broad understanding of the spectrum of security controls relevant to an IT organization, and be capable of driving discussions around enhancing existing controls and ensuring effectiveness 
  • Will maintain thorough knowledge of both technical and operational network security best practices for a wide variety of technology platforms and security services provided by the Security Operations Centre
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to impact and influence business and technical decisions as well as, work with cross-functional teams. 
  • Inspire and demonstrate a high level of professionalism through daily interactions
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including development of KPIs and professional dashboards

 

Job Duties/Accountabilities:

This role would include, but is not limited to, the following activities:

  • Development of roadmaps (3-5 year plans) for network security solutions such as WAF, IPS, FW, Remote Access including VPN, MPLS and B2B utilizing F5 APM
  • Lead technology assessments and vendor selection exercises for various network infrastructure and security areas
  • Develop short term plans to satisfy immediate requirements (within year and subsequent year)
  • Understanding of content rules for security solutions, including documentation of detailed use cases, process work flows, architecture diagrams, sizing guidelines, and customized reports
  • Identify and assist in scope and budgetary planning for lifecycle of our technologies
  • Provide network and/or security consultation and support for internal delivery projects
  • Assess IT requirements and assess performance of IT security controls against requirements and KPIs
  • Liaise with vendors, operations personnel, and work with peers to ensure adequate testing and functionality.
  • Take ownership of IT security problems as well as the review of post incident and change failure reports
  • Regular review of incidents to identify opportunities to reduce recurrence
  • Review of IT security related change documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Act as a technical mentor to other IT Network and Security team members

 

Required Qualifications/Competencies:

  • The successful candidate MUST have the following:
  • Completion of a University or College program related to networking/IT Security or at least 5 years work experience with Enterprise Network Security solutions
  • CCIE (Routing & Switching) or equivalent work experience an asset
  • Preferred knowledge around automation and development languages (Java, scripting, web, C/C++, Perl, Python, C#)
  • In depth knowledge and experience working with IP and data networking
  • Experience with Network virtualization and migration strategies an asset
  • Knowledge of ICN, Bell Mobility and Bell West networks an asset
  • Formal training/certification on network based security solutions an asset e.g. F5, Cisco, Symantec
  • Have an awareness of market trends and new network security technologies to lead  technology assessments and vendor selection for various network infrastructure areas
  • Be a self started with proactive approach to problem solving, multi-task oriented team member with ability to self-manage tasks to completion within structured timelines
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship skills, especially the ability to articulate advanced technical topics and build consensus among business and technical constituents – experience preparing and delivering management presentations and reports
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to excel in a high pressure environment with changing priorities
  • French language skills would be beneficial.
  • Be willing to travel on occasion

 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work efficiently in virtual teams, handling multiple projects
  • Availability to work occasional weekends and/or evenings to meet hard deadlines
  • Ability to travel within Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto corridors depending on program/project needs
