The Bell MTS Information Technology team develops and maintains Bell MTS’s internal systems and applications while also developing integrated technology solutions for customers across all lines of business.



The Bell MTS Manager IT Technology Level 3 Shared Services is looking for an energetic and highly motivated individual to lead within the Bell MTS Database Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight of Bell MTS IT Database teams and leading a group of 2-4 highly skilled team members. The primary focus of this role is to design, build, and support/manage the Database infrastructure, best practices and technical knowledge of the group. In addition, the role includes design and development of the database solutions for Bell MTS IT projects, support tasks such as managing and installing upgrades of our Oracle, SQL Server and DB2 databases; being part of an 24x7 on call rotation. The candidate will be the technical lead of the Database group and lead the Bell MTS through the currency upgrades, database security and encryption challenges and other technology changes. 



  • Provide day to day leadership of the Database Team, including assisting with prioritization of tasks, escalations, technical issues, etc.
  • Large breadth of knowledge with databases. Current environment has Oracle 9 databases up to Oracle 19 databases. Candidate must be able to move between these technologies with ease.
  • Provide leadership and guide the Database Team through the various challenges over the next few years with Database Currency, Security concerns, establishing a patching program and solidifying the practice.
  • Provide inputs into the annual capital sustainment planning for the Database Team, and coordinate those plans with Bell Central IT teams.
  • Working with Program and Project Managers, ensure the delivery of the IT infrastructure and network specific projects.
  • Working with the Bell MTS IT Front Door and Project Managers, assign resources to various IT projects and ensure that deliverables are met.
  • During any Major Incident or Outage, ensure that the technical teams are supporting the restoration of service, and provide leadership, communication and coordination as required.
  • Work closely with all Bell MTS IT Technology Managers to ensure the Database Team is providing the services they consume and require.
  • Work closely with the Bell MTS IT Service Delivery team to ensure that all configuration, change, incident and problem management processes are followed.
  • Work closely with various Bell Central IT Database teams to ensure that our teams are aligned with their architectures, processes, plans, etc.
  • Liaise and work with various suppliers and the IT Vendor Management team to ensure the delivery and support of all technologies used by the Database Team.


Critical Qualifications / Competencies:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional experience in IT, in a Database Administrator Capacity
  • Have extensive experience with planning and being the technical lead for minor and mid-range software installations and upgrades.
  • Have experience as the technical lead on major sized (>$500k IT budget) software implementations or upgrades.
  • Extensive experience in advanced database functions such as installation, configuration, backup/recovery, troubleshooting, diagnostics, tuning, monitoring and system performance key indicators for multiple types of Database platforms such as Oracle, DB2, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to present technical issues to a diverse audience and across departments.
  • Extensive experience with operational best practices and service delivery related to change control, incident management and problem management
  • Strong analytical and problems solving skill including the ability to perform root cause analysis.
  • Experience with ITIL practices in regards to configuration, incident, problem and change management.
  • Experience leading and motivating technical teams using coaching and mentoring techniques to build and maintain high performing teams.
  • Organized individual with an ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Innovative, visionary and analytical thinking approach to problem solving.


Preferred Qualifications / Competencies:

  • ITIL Foundations certification would be an asset.


Working Conditions:

  • Work on-site is required: Pioneer (Primary)
  • Conference calls, use of online conferencing utilities (e.g. Net Meeting, Live Meeting)
  • Ability to work flex hours on occasion to meet service availability when necessary
  • Ability to lead support calls during and outside of normal business hours for outages
