The Role:

Reporting to the Director, OTT Video Delivery, the Senior Manager is responsible for owning the end-to-end software development and ongoing release process associated with Bell Media’s backend video systems delivering to its web and application properties.  This includes software development on the in-house technologies that package and deliver video, that action workflows related to the processing of video on demand assets for Canadian BDU partners and Bell Media’s TV Everywhere properties, as well as the systems responsible for managing and exposing video metadata.


The successful candidate will be expected to lead and grow an existing team of internal and external developers to achieve the product development goals for multiple internal stakeholder groups, by translating business needs into technical requirements.   The candidate must ensure proper resourcing is in place internally, as well evaluate, contract and engage external software development resources to deliver on the business requirements.


The candidate must be confident in leading and supporting large migration projects, interfacing with multiple stakeholder groups on the planning, requirements gathering, software development and workflow transitioning in order to consolidate systems and realize cost, feature and efficiency benefits.


The candidate is also expected to foster the use of agile methodology in the implementation of the development and release process, and embody our Network 3.0 values that encourage collaboration, making problems visible, and supporting and serving our employees and customers.


Accordingly, the position demands a senior, seasoned technology professional with exceptional oral and written communication, influence and coaching skills, a strong sense of ownership, and an orientation towards fostering effective teams that are continuously improving.


Key Competencies:

  • Minimum 8 years experience in media or telecommunications in the areas of Software Development, IT, Technology Development, or Engineering functions
  • University degree preferably in Engineering or Computer Science (B.Eng, BSc)
  • Working understanding of software development technologies including Microsoft .NET framework, SQL Server and Windows and Linux operating environments
  • Knowledge of C# and golang programming languages considered an asset
  • Previous experience in delivering projects through agile scrum methodologies
  • Proven experience supporting teams operating on large scale software development projects
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong leadership, facilitation skills and coaching skills
  • Must be able to stand on their own two feet in driving clarity in ambiguous situations
  • Not afraid to get their hands dirty in how the work gets done
